Home A beautiful district in the eastern part of Nepal with rich cultural heritage. Jhapa covers an area of 1,56,500 hectare between the West Bengal (India) in the east, Bihar (India) in the south, Ilam in the North and Morang in the West. The major cities of Jhapa include Chandragadi, Bhadrapur, Birtamode, Damak, Dhulabari and Kakarvitta. The headquarter of Jhapa is Chandragadi whereas Karkarvitta is the easternmost border of Nepal.

Jhapa is one of the Terai district of Nepal covering about an area of 1606 Sq. Km. and stretching about 29 Km. from east to west. It is one of the most developed district as each and every village is linked or joined to the main stream with good roads and proper modes of communication. The 47 VDCs and 3 Municipality of this district lies in plain land as about 80% of the district is plain land whereas 20% is covered by hills. The northern part of the district is covered by fertile lands being carried either by floods or landslides. The deepest valley of Nepal Kechana region falls under the district.

Jhapa district is first emerging as a centre of all industrial development. Due to the geographical factors the land around is suitable for the cultivation of paddy. The region is heavily influenced by the monsoon that emerges from the Bay of Bengal. Due to the influenced and advantage of big Indian cities, Jhapa is emerging as one of the most developed district of Nepal.

Four dozens hurt as bomb explodes in Jhapa [ 2007-3-17 ]

DAMAK, Mar. 16: Four dozens of people including children have been injured as the bomb exploded in Korobari, a south-western border area in Jhapa district this morning.

A local Ram Mandal lost his hand while six other have been seriously injured in the explosion, Area Police Office Gauriganj said.

The injured have been undergoing treatment at Life Line Hospital in Damak and BP Koirala Institute of Health Science, Dharan.

The explosive matter stranded near Mandal's home at Nepal-India border area by the unidentified gang of dacoits was suddenly exploded.

According to police, the bomb in a river bank some 500 metre away Mandal's home in Korobari-7 was exploded and six other explosive matters were diffused.
